If there is one thing that I love, its D.I.Y Projects! There are some SUPER awesome websites to get free plans that range from beginner to experienced builders! This was one of the first projects that I built from scratch. After TONS of hint dropping and idea sharing…
I finally convinced my husband to invest in my first set of Ryobi power tools! I knew the first project that I did had to be good. I figured the better I did, the less he would say about me buying more! It was a Win-Win really! I saw the plans for this beautiful Console Table at Ana-White.com and decided to tweak it a little bit to match some of the brag posts that were submitted. I REALLY liked and NEEDED the extra shelf space on the bottom!
With the exception of the 4×4 posts which were purchased from a local lumber yard, all of the wood was purchased from Home Depot. Thankfully they have amazing people who will help cut the wood down and make it easier to transport in my minivan loaded down with my 4 boys! Sidenote** as I am writing this first blog post I am totally realizing the types of pictures that I need to take in the future to really help tell my story!** The plans that are given for the table are very thorough and make completing this project, lots of fun!
These are a couple of pictures taken during the process. I promise I will take more step by step pictures next time.
Once the structure of the table was finished, I sanded down the rough spots on the leg posts, and prepared the wood for staining by applying Miniwax Pre-Stain wood conditioner, from Home Depot. I applied two coats of Miniwax wood finish (I think it was Espresso) and allowed in to dry for about 24 hours.
This was definitely a GREAT first project! It is relatively inexpensive and yields an awesome and sturdy handmade piece!! Our overall cost was around $65.
